Biggs Quilt block 18

Just finished this block today. It will look nice with all the other blocks. 

Also today, I trimmed all the completed blocks to their appropriate size of 16.5" which will make them 16" finished. I now have them all stitched into rows. I don't want to get to the end of these blocks and just have a stack of blocks to do something with. If I don't want it to become a UFO ( unfinished object) I need to work on parts along the way. 

Grand Illusion Clue 5

Clue 5 came out today. There were 2 more broken dishes blocks to make. For the full size quilt 25 of 1 block and 4 of the other. Could it be that those 4 blocks are the center of something?  We'll see when the final clues come out.  

My blocks are done. Now to await the next clue which will come next Friday. 

Grand Illusion clue 3

Just finished the set of blocks for clue 3 of Grand Illusion, the mystery Bonnie is doing at quiltville. I'm doing 1/4 of the large quilt so had only 30 of these to make. My greens are darker than Bonnie's but I'm using scraps a d this is what I have. 

Now I'm ready for the next clue. Making a small quilt helps me to stay current as the clues come out. It's especially nice this busy time of year. 

Basket Preemie Quilt

Another peemie quilt made from a fabric made for a pillow top. These little quilts go together quite easily. 

Raggedy Ann preemie quilt

This little preemie quilt was made with a piece of printed fabric, backed with fleece and a little quilting. Done. But isn't it cute? There were no lines to follow as the pictures on this fabric look to be randomly placed so I used some diagonal lines for the quilting. 

Sunbonnet Sue Preemie Quilts

I made 2 preemie quilts (18" square) from some pieces of preprinted fabric I had in the cabinet. I still have a full panel but am keeping it for a baby quilt rather than cutting it. That piece will have to wait awhile as my goal is to get several tops made into quilts and finished first. Little by little. 

Biggs block 2

Ever make changes a project after you've started it?

I'm excited about the Just Takes 2 Biggs quilt but having worked on and still working the completion of the JT2 2012 quilt, I don't need another large red and white quilt. So what do I do?  I don't really want to do block 1 over so think, think.  ....

As I had already planned on purple for the block corners, I decided to use purple for most of the blocks. In order to also use block 1 done with red, I'll use red on all the corner blocks of the quilt and perhaps in the center block as well. I'll still need to decide what color(s) to put in the border. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

And here's a photo showing blocks 1 & 2. There are 25 blocks in this quilt and my plan at the moment is to use red only in the 4 corner blocks and in the center block. 

Spring is coming!  In spite of our snow covered ground and rooftops and a forecast for several inches of new snow - a flock of robins is currently at home (East Central Indiana) in our neighborhood. We first noticed them when we got home from church yesterday. Wow! Groundhog's day and the first robins all in the same day. Robins are pretty brave, strong birds as they usually arrive before we've had our last snowstorm. 

Quick, Easy and Cute

1 piece of fabric + 1 piece of fleece =

1 cute baby quilt. 

This playful kitten quilt will be donated to my quilt guild's baby project. The quilts go to various local charities. On this quilt, I used straight stitching between the windows the kittens are peeking through. Turn the fleece to the front, stitch down, trim and it's done. Here's a close-up showing the fleece used as self binding. The scallop is a decorative stitch on my machine. 

B. Biggs block A-1

I've completed my 1st block for the Just Takes Two Benjamin Biggs quilt project. This block is called Apple Pie Ridge Star. I wasn't familiar with this block but I'll recognize it now. I made an adaptation to the JT2 pattern and that was to use a comma shape in place of the ball shapes on the Biggs quilt. I like it better this way. It is more like the blocks I saw online when I looked for info on this block. 

I used a purple batik for the corner flower buds and after several attempts to get a photo, they still look darker in the photo than they appear to be on the fabric. I will try to use a lighter green for the corner leaves in the future. I think this will help the flower buds to show up better. 

I haven't yet trimmed the block. I may wait and do several at one time.
