New Christmas ornaments

I've completed 2 ornaments made from this week's online tatting class lesson. Both have seed beads added so they'll make lovely Christmas ornaments.

This first one is tatted from size 20 Flora, color 57. The pattern is a star from The June 1925 Comfort Magazine. I suspect that the designer never dreamed that the pattern would be used so many decades later. It's a lovely pattern. On the rings, I started and ended with 1 des with 1 des between picots. Since all my red beads were on my shuttle thread, I used the shoelace trick before and after the outer rings, thus putting the red beads to the outside of the motif.  With the variegated thread and the beads I used, I'm calling this Peppermint Star. It reminds me of peppermint candies. Size of this ornament is about 3" across. 

The next is a snowflake from be-stitched.com. I tatted it with size 12 DMC  perle cotton. It measures 2.75" across. 

Both of these still need to be starched and then they'll be ready for hanging on the tree.  Easily done in time for Christmas!

Tatting class homework

Here's a tatted daisy made from size 30 variegated yellow thread with a heart button in the center. I've put a button pin on the back so it can be used as a broach. This will be a Christmas gift. I'm learning to have a button or two in mind for the center before I begin tatting so I don't make the center ring too small for the button shaft to go through. This piece is about 2" across. 

The next photo is from the December 3 Online Tatting Class. It's Tatted Star Doily. Thank you to Charlene Finiello and Carolyn Groves for this pattern. The pattern called for size 10 thread. I chose instead to use size 12 perle cotton in colors I already had along with beads I had. When I calculated the number of beads I'd need for the last round, I didn't think there would be enough of the blue beads I'd started using so I decided to use clear beads along with the blue ones. The finished star measures 4.5" across and will go on my Christmas tree. It would also look lovely hanging in a window. 

Beaded ball cover

Seed beads, drop beads and size 30 thread were used to make this hanging cover that fits over this silver ball. It's sitting on a plastic lid as I couldn't keep it from rolling. That won't be a problem when it hangs on a tree. 

More Christmas Balls

2 more Christmas balls were finished this week. I finished the green one last night. I adapted patterns for 2" balls from Festive Tatting as the satin balls I had we're bigger than.

Beaded snowflake

I finished this little snowflake this week and I think I'll most certainly make more using this pattern. I revisited my DMC Festive Tatting book with the use if beads in mind. This is motif 16. I used size 12 perle cotton and seed beads. I put 6 beads on each of the long picots on round 1. The blue thread shows darker than it really is. I think it was trying to blend in with the background. Thread sometimes has a mind of it's own, you know. 

I think I've made this snowflake before but not with beads. The beads certainly add visual interest as well as making the motif have some sparkle which is good for a tree ornament. That's what I'll do with this.
