Black, White, Brights Challenge

in December on the Heartstrings group, there was a challenge to make a black, white and brights string quilt. I finished the top in Dec. and this morning I finished the quilting and binding. So this quilt is ready for donation to charity.

That's the last of the charity quilt tops ready for quilting. So now, I'll concentrate on getting another UFO (unfinished object) completed.

Sharon Quilt

Members of the Heartstrings Group were challenged to make a Sharon Quilt. My top was finished and previously posted here. Yesterday I completed the quilting and binding. I quilted it with serpentine stitching along the seams between blocks and 2 diagonal straight stitching across each block, making an X on the block. The serpentine stitching very nicely held the block seams which tend to be thicker on a string quilt. I used white fleece as backing.

On My Design Wall

I've been making string blocks and decided to try doing lights and darks on each side of the center strip. I'm using strips that I got at quilt guild last month. The entire quilt top will be from these strings. This will be a baby quilt. I should be able to get it finished by our meeting next Wed night. Won't Sherry be surprised to see a baker's dozen (13) preemie quilts plus a baby quilt from her blocks, block pieces and strips?

In addition to that, I probably have enough of her strips to make several other baby quilts - don't know how many. We'll see.

Heartstrings Quilt

Having completed this month's bitty blocks, I changed the settings on my machine as well as the bobbin case and throat plate. While the throat plate was off, I cleaned a bit around the bobbin area. It didn't need much as I had just cleaned the machine last week. Now I was ready to do some quilting. I finished the quilt posted above and will donate it to charity through my quilt guild. For this quilt I cut the turquoise center strips from yardage but all the other fabrics came from a gallon size bag of strings. I nearly emptied the bag but not completely. It's amazing how far those string strips go!

This quilt is 24 9" finished blocks, set 4 x 6 and backed with fleece. I tried to use at least 1 novelty fabric in each block so this will make a great kid's quilt.

Next project:
one of 3 more quilt tops awaiting quilting and finishing.

Sharon Quilt

This weekend I did lots of sewing and completed this quilt top. The blocks finish at 9" so this 24 block quilt is 36 x 54". It's a little longer than my baby quilts but it'll work great for a child or as a lap throw.

Think my next sewing days or sewing weekend needs to be one spent on quilting as I now have several tops than need to be done.
