Windmill Star Quilt Blocks

I'm presenting this quilt block to my quilt guild this week. I made a 2 color block and a 3 color block to demonstrate the versatility of this block. These are 8" blocks (finished size). 

Martha Washington Star

This is my Martha Washington Star for this month's guilt guild. It's an 8" block. It will go into a quilt for wounded warriors. 

5 Point Star Bitty Blocks

I've completed another 12" (finished size) block made from Bitty Blocks. This time I used a 5 point star paper pieced pattern designed and published by Shirley Liby. Each of these little stars finish at 4" blocks. 

Sawtooth Star Blocks

Two Sawtooth Star quilt blocks that I made this week to donate to my quilt guild for their quilts for veterans/wounded warriors project. These are 8" (finished size) blocks. 

8" Star Block

This month I drafted a 4" Arkansas Snowflake block, made 4 of them and put them together for my 8" block to donate to my guild's military/veteran project. This block is one that's special to me as it was used in one of the quilts I have that my grandmother made. She often referred to this as a 4 patch star. It is also called periwinkle. 

Since the little star blocks are 4", they could be used in my Bitty Blocks quilt. We'll see. My next Bitty Block is a Bitty Spool. 

Friendship Star Bitty Blocks

This month's Bitty Block from Quiltmaker.com is a friendship star. I've made and put 16 stars together to make a 12" finished block. Each star finished at 3". 

Star Puzzle Block

I'm presenting the star puzzle quilt block to quilt guild this evening. I've seen this called a mosaic in one book. The block is comprised of 16 half square triangles and it has lots of potential as the placement of color make it look quite different.

In the first block, I used just 2 colors. For the next 2 blocks, I used 3 colors emphasizing the center pinwheel in one and the diamond shapes in the next. 

All of these are 8" finished blocks which quilt guild members are making this year. The donated blocks are put into quilts for veterans. 

Sawtooth Stars Bitty blocks

I've made 2 12" blocks using this month's Bitty Block pattern from Quiltmaker.com. These little stars finish at 4" per star. 

I chose to use the no waste method flying geese to make the star points. That made making these go easier and quicker. 

5 Point Stars

4" 5 point paper pieced star pattern designed and published by Shirley Liby. 

This 8" (finished size) block was made from a 4" paper pieced star pattern that Shirley Liby shared with our guild earlier this month. This red, white and blue block will be donated to our guild's red, white, blue stars project.

Last week Shirley Liby presented a lesson on paper piecing to our quilt guild. This star block was one of the patterns Shirley shared with us. This is a finished size of 8. Since quilt guild members making 8" star blocks to be used in a quilts for disabled veterans, this block will be donated to that project. 

Star Blocks

My quilt guild is making star blocks for Quilts of Valor or a similar organization. 

I brought home from our last meeting 3 fat quarters. These are the blocks I've made so far. They are 8" finished blocks as requested by the person who offered to assemble the blocks and quilt the quilts. 

Star Block

At quilt guild this month, we were asked to make an 8" (finished size) red, white and blue star block to be turned in next month and then all the blocks will be made into a quilt for Quilts of Valor. 

My block is Rising Star from Judy Hopkins' 501 Rotary-Cut Quilt Blocks. I chose the block but then chose to make the star points using the No Waste Flying  Geese method. That made making the parts and putting the block together quite easy. The inner geese units are 1" x 2" finished and the outer geese units are 2" x 4" finished. 

It will be fun to see all the star blocks when our guild next meets.
